NC/SLA raises $1000 in Hurricane relief effort for public and school libraries - Chapter & Division News
Information Outlook, Feb, 2000
Marlys Ray, member of the North Carolina Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (NC/SLA), led the effort to raise funds to aid public and school libraries flooded by Hurricane Floyd. She advertised the North Carolina Library Association's (NCLA) efforts to raise funds by speaking at NC/SLA Chapter meetings and by publishing to the NC/SLA Chapter discussion list.
Between the October and December NC/SLA meetings, Sandi Goodwin, chapter treasurer, collected $455, which was supplemented by $545 from the chapter coffers to bring the total to $1000. NC/SLA and NCLA encourage everyone to contribute funds to aid in the rebuilding of flood-damaged collections or buildings. Please do not donate books. Library directors have said that the best way to help fill the specific gaps that formed in their collections is through monetary donations. To contribute, make checks payable to NCLA Floyd Fund, and mail to Maureen Costello, NCLA, 4646 Mail Service Center, Raleigh NC 27699-4646.
