Automotive Manufacturing & Production, Nov, 2000
This front fascia for the 20001 Chrysler PT Cruiser is injection molded of [SEQUEL.sup.R] 1440 engineered polyolefin from Solvay Engineered Polymers (Auburn Hills, MI). The material for this part and for the rear fascia are supplied to the molder in a color-matched metallic shade. The parts are molded in color and then partially painted.
The SEQUEL 1440 material incorporates a patented UV-protection technology that provides weatherability for the unpainted portion of the fascias, and enhances paint durability for the coated surface. This is the first mold-in-color metallic, partially painted application in the automobile industry.
