Advanced Orbital Pin Gage Technology Revolutionizes Crankshaft Pin Grinding QC

Automotive Manufacturing & Production,  Nov, 2000

The OPG-23 available from Control Gaging Inc., (Ann Arbor, MI) is an advanced gage for real-time control of crankshaft pin diameter with the crankshaft rotating at speeds up to 90 rpm. Features a four-bar linkage actuator, which precisely locates the gage onto the crankshaft pin, eliminating any danger that the gage will strike the grinding wheel(s) as the gage is applied to the crankshaft.

This linkage is also designed to support the gagehead so that it experiences minimal variation in contact force during the grind cycle. On orbital pin grinders, the crankshaft rotates about the centerline of the main bearing journals and the gage follows the orbit of the pin as the pin is ground.
