Automotive Manufacturing & Production, Jan, 2001
Last month, Gary Vasilash told you all about the Th!nk City. Seen here is another Th!nk brain child, the Ford Focus Fuel Cell Vehicle. Right now it's merely a demonstration vehicle, but its intent is to demonstrate more than a cool technology. This car also demonstrates the viability of fuel cell technology.
This particular car uses a methanol reformer fuel cell. Methanol passes through a reformer, which extracts the hydrogen needed to react with oxygen to produce electricity to power the car. Its two by-products--"emissions" if you will--are heat and water.
According to the folks at Th!nk, This will go from demo vehicle to full scale production vehicle in 2004.
