Ten tips for job seekers!
Hispanic Times Magazine, Spring, 2003
Stop worrying about being out of work. Don't expect a job to come to you. Conduct an aggressive job search. Make phone calls. Send out resumes. Do independent research on companies where you feel your skills and knowledge can attract an employer.
Focus your resume on all your accomplishments in the job market in an efficient manner, making the task of determining your qualifications understandable to the employer.
Don't immediately reject temporary work. This work can supply funds to keep paying bills and can lead to permanent employment.
Keep an accurate record of every company you contact and each response.
Check out your budget requirements, so you are always aware of how much money you must have on any job to pay your bills.
Make a list of 50 to 100 companies to contact. Don't just ask for a job. Ask their advice, along with explaining that you are seeking employment.
Be aware of the overall economic picture. Unemployment claims are currently at their highest levels in years. Discuss with others who are looking for a job. Swapping stories about job search agenda can be very helpful.
Even though you've encountered many negative responses, maintain a positive outlook. Look to every job interview as the one that might payoff.
Don't be too demanding about the "perfectjob" or "ideal situation" as in today's job market, the reality of the overall picture has to be considered.
Time is money. It is vital when searching for a job not to waste time or money. It will demand hard work to find the right job for your situation. You can learn a lot from past experience, failure and success.
