Heineken and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists conduct search for student journalists: program provides Hispanic student journalists with the opportunity to broadcast from the billboard latin music conference and awards show in Miami

Hispanic Times Magazine, Spring, 2003

Now in it's fourth year, Heineken USA has again teamed up with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) in a search for student journalists to act as on-air radio reporters for the 2003 Billboard Latin Music Conference and Awards in Miami.

"This program was conceived three years ago by Heineken USA in order to give Hispanic Journalism students a chance to gain valuable on-air experience," says Marime Riancho, Brand Manager Hispanic Markets at Heineken USA. "Heineken has always believed in opening doors and developing community programs like this one. We are proud to be able to support student journalists by providing them with this unique experience."

Applicants selected for the program will travel to Miami in May--and will report on all aspects of news associated with the event. From Miami, the students will file news reports for radio stations in their local cities, and receive special instruction from news professionals from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.

To apply for Heineken: On Assignment, applicants must submit a demo cassette tape, no more than 10 minutes long, in Spanish, of their best work in radio (can be news, features, interviews or documentaries), along with a cover letter describing their interest in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. A brief description of the tape's content is also recommended. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical trade school and must be proficient in both Spanish and English. Students must also be available to travel to Miami from May 5-9, and they must be 21 years of age or older.

Applications must be postmarked no later than March 26, 2003. Each must include the applicant's address, age and phone number. Application materials must be addressed to The National Association of Hispanic Journalists; Heineken: On Assignment Program; Attn: Kevin Olivas; 1000 National Press Building; Washington, DC 200452100. Complete details of Heineken: On Assignment application requirements (including application materials and eligibility information) are available by logging onto www.nahi.org. To ensure eligibility, those interested should review the program requirements listed at www.nahi.org before applying.
