Perks Pay Off In Recruiting Efforts - ArtÃculo Breve

MENLO PARK, CA -- Sure they want to be paid well, but a recent survey reveals that job seekers also want to know your firm is a great place to work. When executives were asked what applicants inquired about most -- other than salary and bonuses -- while interviewing, 36 percent cited benefits and 34 percent said corporate culture--results that mirror a 1995 study from the company.
The survey was developed by Robert Half International Inc., the world's first and largest staffing service specializing in the accounting, finance and information technology fields. It was conducted by an independent research firm and includes responses from 150 executives with the nation's 1,000 largest companies.
"It's not enough to simply offer a competitive salary," said Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International and author of Human Resources Kit For Dummies(R) (IDG Books Worldwide). "Job seekers want other incentives such as innovative benefits and a progressive culture.
"More and more workers desire positions that offer greater flexibility in balancing work and personal demands, defined career paths and ongoing learning opportunities. Fostering an environment that values creative thinking is also critical," he said.
High employment levels nationwide may be making job security less of a concern for workers, according to the survey. "Those professionals with marketable skills have multiple opportunities in today's hiring environment," Messmer said. He added that for companies, this places greater emphasis on staff retention issues.
