Trevino Named General Manager Of The New Hotel Palomar - ArtÃculo Breve
Hispanic Times Magazine, March, 2000
Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, Inc., announces Jorge E. Trevino, age 35, will be the General Manager of the Hotel Palomar, the newest addition to the Kimpton Group's properties. Trevino was formerly the Executive Assistant Manager with the 5-Diamond, 4-Star rated Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia. Originally from Matamoros, Mexico, he was educated both in Mexico and the United States. He received his degree in Economics in 1987 from the Monterey Institute of Technology and Superior Studies.
In 1990, Trevino began working at the Ritz-Carlton in Houston, TX where he became familiar with all aspects of the hotel and hotel management. He began his employment in the employee dining room, worked as Housekeeping Manager, and was then promoted to Assistant Front Office Manager. When he left the hotel in August of 1993, Trevino was the Front Office Manager. "Having done everything from making beds and washing dishes to receiving dignitaries, I feel that I understand what's necessary to run a luxury hotel," said Trevino.
In 1993 Trevino opened his first hotel for Ritz Carlton -- the Ritz Carlton Cancun, winner of the 1993 National Mexican Quality Award. The next year he opened another Ritz Carlton property, the Hotel Arts in Barcelona. In addition to opening four other Ritz hotels around the world, he also worked with a team to develop the Opening Team Standards and Matrix for the Ritz Carlton Hotel Company. "I've traveled all over the world opening incredibly beautiful hotels," said Trevino. "But, coming back to San Francisco and having this wonderful opportunity was something I couldn't turn down."
By moving around the world with the Ritz Carlton Trevino learned a great deal about opening luxury hotels. The Kimpton Group felt his experience made him the right General Manager to open and run their new luxury boutique property, the Hotel Palomar. "The past few months have been the most exhilarating time of my life -- the Kimpton Group gave me a beautiful building and a blank canvas and said create something special -- and here we are creating this intimate, service-oriented getaway in the middle of the city," said Trevino.
