Summer study abroad and travel programs - Education - Artículo Breve

Hispanic Times Magazine, Summer, 2002

If the mild winter has you craving the outdoors and adventure, why not appease your hunger with travel? The American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS) has more than 16 study abroad programs available this summer in nine different countries: the Costa Rica, Czech Republic, England, France, Italy, Poland, Russia, South Africa and Spain. Each program is as unique as your tastes and interests. They range from three to 12 weeks, and are open to students and adults.

Are you interested in art? The London Summer Art and Design program features trips to museums and theatres, weekend excursions to places such as Brussels and Paris, and classes such as sculpture, painting and illustration. Not your idea of fun? Why not perfect your Spanish in Salamanca, Spain? This program features excursions to Madrid and Portugal (to name just a few) and intensive Spanish language instruction.

Of course, you don't have to limit yourself to just one location. AIFS also has multi-country/traveling programs. For instance, the "Introduction to Environmental Conservation and Eco-tourism" in Central America program takes you to Costa Rica where you'll visit nature reserves, national parks (think butterflies, birds, iguanas and white-faced monkeys), jungle lodges and rainforests. Costa Rica is your classroom. Other multi-country/traveling programs include, "European Art and Architecture" and "Introduction to International Marketing and Finance in the European Union."

The AIFS program fee is comprehensive. Costs, which range from $3,799 to $7,499, include air fare, housing and meals, the support of an on-site Resident Director, organized social and cultural events, academic support services and travel advice from the AIFS Student Advisory Center. Scholarships are also available.

To request an AIFS 2002 Summer Catalog, call (800) 727-2437, ext. 5163 or write to AIFS, River Plaza, 9 West Broad Street, Stamford, CT 06902-3788. You can also learn more about AIFS programs (including Summer Enrichment Study Abroad programs available to high school students) or talk to AIFS alumni at www.aifsabroad.com. Since 1964, more then one million students and teachers have participated on AlPS programs. What are you waiting for?
