Symantec launches new Internet security and problem solving software lineup to Hispanic market
Hispanic Times Magazine, Fall, 2003
Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, introduced today its new lineup of products to the Hispanic market. The product lineup that was first launched to the general market in Fall 2002, and is now available in Spanish and English, includes Norton Internet Security 2003, the most tightly integrated and complete online security and privacy suite, and the Norton Internet Security 2003 Professional Edition for small businesses, professionals, and advanced users. These comprehensive Internet security suites provide essential protection from viruses, hackers, and privacy threats. Included are full versions of Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall, which efficiently defend your PC from the most common Internet dangers. Also included are Norton Spare Alert to block unwanted email, and Norton Parental Control to protect your children online.
Other Symantec products being introduced include Norton AntiVirus 2003, Norton System Works 2003 and Norton Personal Firewall 2003. Symantec's Norton AntiVirus 2003 is the world's most trusted antivirus solution. It removes viruses automatically, protects both email and instant messages, and updates itself without interrupting your work. Norton System Works 2003 is the smartest way to solve computer problems. It includes award-winning Symantec products and additional utilities that help protect your PC from virus threats, optimize performance, fix and prevent problems, recover from system failures, clean out Internet clutter, and keep dial-up connections active when online.
Symantec's Norton Personal Firewall 2003 keeps hackers out and personal data in. Its robust defenses include intrusion detection, application control, and privacy protection in one easy program. It hides your PC from hackers, blocks suspicious incoming connections, stops malicious programs from spying on your system, and prevents confidential information from being sent out without your knowledge.
These products are available through traditional channels in English and via the company's Spanish-language Web site.
"We are pleased to be able to offer our award-winning products in Spanish to meet the needs of computer users in the U.S.," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president, Consumer and Client Product Delivery at Symantec. Access to the Internet brings many benefits but it also poses certain threats. There are many Spanish-speaking households and businesses in the U.S. that could benefit from the security and problem solving tools Symantec provides. We hope that by raising awareness of the availability of our products in Spanish we will improve accessibility to the superior protection our software offers users.
A recent study conducted by the Torruis Rivera Policy Institute, a Latino think tank in Claremont, CA, cited that language barriers and the lack of computer hardware and software were among the key barriers to more Latino Internet usage. The study's findings revealed a need for Latino-friendly marketing of Internet services, Web sites, and more availability of English and Spanish language options on the Internet.
"By addressing the needs of this growing market and providing these new products and services, Symantec is helping build a bridge across the Digital Divide for U.S. Hispanics whose access has been limited because of language barriers and the lack of appropriate software," Cullen said.
Information on all of Symantec's products is easily accessible on the company's English and Spanish-language Web site, www.Symantec.com. For information in Spanish, click on the search: site index (Global Sites) and choose Americas (En Espanol) from the pull down menu.
