Latin music sensation Shalim was one of the many performers who entertained guests at Mervyn's recent weekend-long La Plaza event at the Montebello Town Center. The inaugural event was a free Latino cultural celebration featuring authentic foods, handcrafts, and entertain-ment at the Montebello Town Center in Montebello, CA. La Plaza pays tribute to the colorful Mexican culture that has contributed so much to the Southern California landscape. The 27,000 square foot replica of a Mexican plaza inspired visitors to explore the many treasures of Mexican culture. The event featured appearances by top recording artists, celebrity chefs and family entertainment.

Mervyn's donates $30,000 to the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) at its inaugural La Plaza event in Montebello, CA. The grant exemplifies Mervyn's ongoing commitment to the Hispanic community. La Plaza paid homage to six Mexican states through authentic arts and crafts, including copper, black pottery, talavera-inspired ceramics, and tin items, many of which will soon be available at many Mervyn's stores.
