Meridian Data Inc. has released its second-generation multifunction departmental network storage server, Meridian TNT Server 2000. The server is customizable and can support configurations ranging from an entry-level of 14 network CD-ROMs to system configurations supporting hard drive caching of at least 375 CD-ROMs simultaneously. It incorporates a 400MHz Pentium II processor with a minimum of 128MB of 100MHz SDRAM memory and a Fast Ethernet network adapter to ensure that data moves smoothly from the storage subsystems to the network. It supports up to 10 SCSI channels, and the Windows NT Server and Novell NetWare operating systems. Included in the product bundle is the company's own CD Net software. Suggested retail pricing for a Meridian TNT Server 2000 in a tower configuration consisting of 14 32X CD-ROM drives, 10/100 Ethernet, 128MB of RAM, and 9.1 GB system hard drive is $11,986; a rack-mountable server with 128MB of RAM, 10/100 Ethernet, and 9.1 GB system hard drive providing redundant power supplies, audio/visual power alarms, and 14 hot-swappable CD-ROM drives is $17,909.
