SEAGATE signs agreement to acquire XIOtech

Seagate Technology, Inc. has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire XIOtech Corporation. The approximate value of this transaction is $360 million. The transaction has been approved by the board of directors of both companies, but still must earn XIOtech shareholder approval and regulatory approval. XIO specializes in Storage Are a Network (SAN) solutions, while Seagate manufactures disc and tape drives.

ZEN signs license agreements with SANYO and INFINEON

Zen Research has announced that it has signed separate license agreements with Sanyo and Infineon that will allow each company to produce complementary TrueX DVD drive components. Infineon is licensed to produce Zen-enabled controller chips, while Sanyo is licensed to produce DVD multibeam optical pick-ups. TrueX enabled drives are capable of reading multiple tracks of a disc simultaneously.

MACROVISION and TTR announce partnership

Macrovision Corporation and TTR Technologies have announced a partnership to develop a copy protection system for audio CDs. The two companies plan to pool their respective technologies and patents for audio CD and DVD copy protection. The agreement grants Macrovision exclusive use of TTR's CD and DVD signature technology. Macrovision plans to make an 11.4 percent investment in TTR, and will be responsible for licensing the technology to copyright owners. Macrovision intends to use TTR's technology to enhance its SafeDisc and SafeCast copy protection software. Also, Macrovision has announced that Palm Pictures has signed a one-year agreement to copy-protect all of its DVD and VHS titles.
