TriTech Audio Codecs Support Dolby Digital AC-3, Dolby Pro Logic - Brief Article

TriTech Microelectronics Ltd.'s TR28620CG and TR28640CG audio codecs are integrated multi-channel devices that support Dolby Digital AC-3 and Dolby Pro Logic surround sound, and DVD applications. The TR28640 integrates four independent channels of ADCs and six channels of DACs. The devices accommodate many features, including independent power-down for all ADC and DAC channels, which allows greater flexibility in power management. Users can also mute the six output channels separately. The chips support 24-bit data for both the ADC and DAC channels, as well as sampling rates of up to 96kHz for the ADC channels. This feature eliminates the need for sampling rate conversion, especially in DVD applications. When all channels are activated, the highly-integrated single-chip devices achieve greater than 100dB dynamic range for both ADC and DAC channels. The signal-to-noise ratio of the DAC channels (muted) is up to 108dB. The TR28620 and TR28640 are housed in 44-pin LQFP packages; unit prices in sample quantities are $10 and $10.50, respectively.
