Industry: Email Alert RSS Feedcedar technologies and smart storage COLLABORATE on complete CD solution - automatic creation and duplication
Emedia Professional, May, 1999
Cedar Technologies announced the bundling of Smart Storage's SmartCD Duplicator Lite software with its desktop CDR Publisher systems. The collaboration signals the first sub-$10,000 solution for automatically creating and duplicating CDs. According to Jim Lewis, Cedar's sales and marketing manager, the relationship was a natural choice. Cedar had been looking for a comprehensive solution that offered logical upgrade paths to allow users to grow their systems according to their individual needs. The union of these products streamlines the CD creation and duplication process by offering a full line of professional production features, including support for Windows 95, 98, and NT operating systems; integrated support of Cedar Publisher's printer for completely automated operation; batch file management; and mastering and duplication of data and audio CDs. The system also includes Smart Storage's RomMaker software for disc image mastering and duplication.

As users' requirements grow, they can upgrade to SmartCD Duplicator Pro at a special price. With the upgrade, users are able to write up to four different images to CDs simultaneously. Duplicator Pro also supports an unlimited number of jobs in the duplication queue and features label creation software; support for multiple publishers on one PC for higher volume production; and asset management capabilities, which allow the use of a CD jukebox to store duplication masters. Smart Storage and Cedar will also offer Duplicator Enterprise, which allows anyone on the network to submit jobs for duplication. SmartCD Duplicator Lite is included with all Cedar Publisher for Windows systems. Prices for Cedar's complete CDR Publisher system with Duplicator Lite start at $7,500. Cedar ships Duplicator Pro with its system as an incentive to upgrade; customers can try software for a limited time and then purchase the key code from Smart Storage for $850. The Enterprise version retails for $3,500.
