More than 195 million CD-ROM drives have been installed on the world's PCs and videogame consoles, according to the ninth edition of InfoTech's Optical Publishing Industry Assessment. The study also notes that unit sales of CD-ROM readers increased 27 percent in 1997 and that DVD-ROM drive sales should experience comparable growth.
