Emedia Professional, June, 1998
Carlton Communications Plc has announced a significant investment in the production and distribution of DVD discs by its wholly owned subsidiary, Technicolor, Inc. Technicolor has a growing business in manufacturing DVD and other disc-based formats and is investing an additional $10 million in building two new manufacturing lines, one of which will be capable of manufacturing the 8.5GB DVD-9 dual-layer disc format. Technicolor will be equipped to manufacture all initial versions of the DVD disc configurations, including the single-sided/single-layer, the single-sided/dual-layer, and the double-sided/single-layer versions for both DVD-ROM and DVD-Video. Technicolor is also able to package discs to all specifications, and ship them with traditional retail displays. The expansion will triple Technicolor's DVD replication capacity from 5 to 15 million units per year.
