Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedTunes.com to provide music for Microsoft Plus! 98's Deluxe CD player
Emedia Professional, Sept, 1998
Microsoft Corporation and Tunes Network Inc., which has been acquired by JAMTV Corporation, have announced that Tunes.com will provide music content for the Deluxe CD Player included with Microsoft Plus! 98. Microsoft Plus! 98 extends the functionality of Windows 98 by adding utilities, themes, and games. The Deluxe CD Player can take advantage of the Internet to automatically deliver information about the title, artist, and play list of a CD to users as they listen. Links to Web pages containing information on artists, additional albums, related music genres, radio play lists, new releases, and more are also accessible. According to a recent study by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association, 71 percent of multimedia PC owners now use their CD-ROM drives to play music CDs. The Deluxe CD Player reads a CD's "fingerprint" and then, using an Internet link to Tunes.com, displays the information in the user interface.
