Cafe Tacvba - concert by music group - Artículo breve

Latin Beat Magazine, Feb, 2004 by Rigo Gutierrez

Okay, I don't to plan to start painfully invoking some mythically bitter rock critic hyperbole; you know, as to the so-called "misdirection" Café Tacuba has taken by adding a drummer. No, I just plan on describing what it's like to witness a show from the greatest band in the world! If Café Tacuba started sounding like Eddie Money due to their drums then, and only then could you say that they've abandoned their "roots" (but I guess it's arbitrary if sounding like Eddie Money translates into mediocrity 'cuz I hear he kills at the Orange County fair). Anyway, I have the unfortunate task (if I may) of describing the greatest rock and roll show I have ever been to, and giving it justice.

I have been to JC Fandangos on several occasions for some pretty cool shows, but on this night the energy was evident long before the doors opened, and this is taking into account the fact that Café Tacuba had just finished playing two nights at the House of Blues. The kids at the door wearing traditional Mexican wrestling masks was a sign as to the ominous danger that loomed ahead for anyone who made their way into the pit--by choice or by accident. The fact that I got kicked in the nose and elbowed in the mouth is no more unfortunate than it is masochistic--I say this as a fan of "live" music. Café Tacuba didn't play the songs on the records; they red off the crowd and proved that they can shoulder the burden for an entire genre. Elfego, Joselo, Quique, Meme and Alejandro Flores (who plays the violin) are genuine performers whether or not you consider drums an intricate sum of their parts. The greatest "misdirection" since Go-gurt (the yogurt you eat on the run) ... Café Tacuba.
