Jose Mangual Jr. Dancing With the Gods - Reseña de audio grabación

(Chola Musical Productions)

Master percussionist José Mangual Jr. pays homage to the deities of the Yoruba religion through salsa beat interpretations. Opening with the selection Tumbayaya, Mangual salutes palo mayombe, the Congo-derived religion that predates many of the Yoruba beliefs: He then proceeds with the traditional invocation of Elegguá, his arrangement of the Sonora Matancera's classic hit Saludo a Elegguá. The dancing homage to the Yoruba gods continues throughout the eleven hardcore salsa tracks of this new production. This excellent, joyful "bembé" celebration includes Mangual and Ada Chabrier on lead vocals; percussionists Roberto Quintero and Papo Pepín; pianists Alfredo Valdés Jr., Lucho Cueto and Hirám De Jesús; bassists Rey Martínez, Luis Arona and Bert Castro; trumpeters Piro Rodriguez and Raúl Agraz and lead vocalists José Mangual Jr. and Ada Chabrier. The vocal chorus is comprised of "The Dynamic Duo" (José Mangual Jr. and Milton Cardona). Outstanding tracks include the Mangual original Ritmo Con Aché, which celebrates the power of life through the essence of rhythm, and the Justi Barreto score Canto a La Caridad. ¡Mucho aché!
