Latin Beat Music Update

Latin Beat Magazine, April, 2001 by Nelson Rodríguez

Rey Reyes' Salsa, Timba y Son sizzles with the hot tracks Candela, Ella Esta En Otra Rumba, Temporal and Carmela. His previous solo projects were fine productions, as were the albums he recorded with tresista Charlie Rodríguez in the eighties.

Pianist Jesús Rubalcaba (Gonzalo Rubalcaba's brother) has a solo debut CD titled Estoy Aqui, that includes two more Rubalcabas-William on bass and Michel on pailas.

Congratulations to the Tito Puente family and Eddie Palmieri for their well-deserved Grammy Award for Masterpiece. Congratulations are also in order for Grammy winners Olga Tañon and Chucho Valdés.

Something really special that I ran across from Cuba is Denis & Swing's CD Nunca Pescao, Siempre Tiburon from 1999, which literally swings from beginning to end.

Mariano Civico sounds stronger than ever on the CD De Costa a Costa with his unique vocals that immediately reminds everyone of the best hits Costa Brava had in the eighties. Good old school salsa mixed with today' new styles.

Angelo Pagán (vocalist for Orquesta La Palabra) has begun working on his solo debut CD being produced by singer Ray Ramos with assistance from Angel Fernández.

More good stuff next month.
