Roberto Delgado Y Orquestra: Salseando

Latin Beat Magazine, April, 2006 by Rudy Manugal

ROBERTO DELGADO Y ORQUESTA Salseando (Envidia)

Representing the current state of salsa music in Panamá, bandleader/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Roberto Delgado showcases his unique orchestra in this new recording from the prolific Envidia label based in Barcelona, Spain. With tasty arrangements from Luis García, Luis "Perico" Ortiz, Tommy Villarini and Delgado, this production swings with a decidedly Caribbean feel throughout ten tracks of mostly original scores by Delgado, plus a few covers like Llevatela (Orlando "Maraca" Valle) and Aprovecha Pollo (Arsenio Rodriguez). The three-trombone, two-trumpet-powered orchestra features a rock steady rhythm section anchored by Delgado on bass, Juan Berna on piano and the added vocals of José Porte and Henry Gorgona. Standouts include the tracks Mariana Soba, Quisiera and El Milagro del Amor.
