Chino Nunez & friends

Latin Beat Magazine, April, 2007 by Chico Alvarez

There are too many adjectives to describe Chino Núñez's acquired professional credentials. Already considered a legend in the making, he is a percussionist extraordinaire, pianist, arranger, bandleader, composer, producer, recording engineer, educator and motivational speaker. As one of the most accomplished, respected and sought-after freelancers on the East Coast, his diversity has undoubtedly made a mark in the industry and his success is dictated in his extensive discography.

Chino has received countless lifetime achievement awards, including a Grammy Award and Latin Grammy nominations. Having performed with most of the mainstream, legendary artists of the Latin genre for over 30 years (most recently with the Spanish Harlem Orchestra), Chino launched his solo career in July 2005, with the much anticipated release of his debut album, Chino Núñez & Friends, It's SHOtime, Strictly Hardcore Salsa On 1 or 2, A Tribute to the Dancers, to worldwide acclaim. The CD continues to be on the top play lists, has received countless recognitions and numerous tracks have been selected for many salsa compilations, including Latin Beat Magazine's and the UK's World Music Network.

Whether at the world-renowned Lincoln Center in New York City, at a social or dance club in Brooklyn, or at an outdoor festival in the Bronx, Chino Núñez & Friends Orchestra has broken all the rules and is being recognized as a promoter's delight, making Chino Núñez a household name as a solo artist.

Chino's next album, Chino Nuñez & Friends Orchestra, Dr. Salsa, Vol. 2, features 12 musicians, including two trumpets and three trombones (making up the brass), percussion, bass, piano and two vocalists--a recipe for powerful sounds! The CD will be in stores in mid-spring 2007.
