Latin Beat Magazine, June-July, 2002 by Richie Cabo
LA ONDA CALIENTE is ah up and coming group with a very distinct sound and a large fan base. They're "packing them in" in San Antonio, and their numerous performances at MARKET SQUARE have been described as "crowd pleasing--exciting fun." Dana Lauren, Bronx, NY
Hi, my name is Richie Cabo. I recorded a CD with Combo Records in the past and Latin Beat Magazine was very supportive of my CD. One of the hits was Venus. Lately, my wife and my two partners from the group Retumba have been working on a new CD with our new group Afroditee, an all-female, 15-piece Latin /English crossover recording and it is great. The HBO show, Sex In The City want to use our group and our song SEX IN NEW YORK CITY in the next season. The Bronx Arts Council and The N.Y.C. Arts Council have given us a $20,000 grant to record. We have combined the experience of Retumba and new talent with our two 18-year old singers and two other great vocalists. This band has 4 vocalists and 11 killer women musicians. There has never been a band of all women musicians that could perform hardcore salsa and English dance music. This is Santana, Jennifer Lopez, La Banda N.G., and Gran Combo all in one. But yet, we have not been embraced by the industry, why, I do not understand. I can tell you one thing, we have worked on this for two years and we are not going away. Afroditee is coming soon to record shops in your area. It is just a matter of what label has the vision to see the new Buena Vista type project, the unexpected big hit. Please let me know if you have any ideas on this project, and who might be interested, as you know many people in the industry. Thank you.
