Sonora Latina: Sonando con Puerto Rico

Latin Beat Magazine, June-July, 2003 by Gilbert Rivera

(Envidia)

Recorded in Valencia, Spain, and mixed in Puerto Rico, Sonora Latina pays tribute to the salseros of yesteryear as well as to those of today, through a balanced repertoire of salsa hits from Puerto Rico. Luis Dominguez of Envidia Records, and Pedro Pablo Hernández of Mediterránea Multimedia produced Soñando con Puerto Rico in a joint venture to make this recording a reality. Under the musical direction and arrangements of Ernesto "Tiro" Rivera, Sonora Latina rehashes fresh salsa versions of Dormir contigo (an Armando Manzanero composition), Hoy puede ser un gran día (Joan M. Serrat), Hasta que se rompa el cuero (Tito Gómez), and the Bobby Capó classic composition Soñando con Puerto Rico, among others. Kudos to pianist Sergio Riera Ramos and percussionists Luis Dulzaides and Titín Ibáñez for their excellent execution on this recording. Vocal credits go to Manolo Genovés, Era Gomáriz and Tania Tania. Special guest vocalist on the selection Soñando con Puerto Rico is Pedro Brull.
