Los Soneros Del Barrio Siguiendo La Tradicion

The perfect combination between singer Frankie Vásquez and musical director/pianist/arranger Ricky González only begins to describe the depth of talent in the all-star ensemble Los Soneros Del Barrio. This third outing by the band is a dancer's delight, with a repertoire of old-school salsa classics reminiscent of the golden era of this music. With a phat sound and monster arrangements, Los Soneros rejuvenate such favorites as Canuto (Adalberto Santiago) Babaila (Alonso C. Curet) Las Mujeres Son (Ismael Miranda), and Juana Peña (Willie Colon/Héctor Lavoe). Throughout the recording, the rhythm section of Pablo "Chino" Nuñez, Little Johnny Rivero and George Delgado cook non-stop in perfect unison with the bass tumbao of Rubén Rodríguez. Trumpeter Richie Viruet heads the brass brigade, completing an undisputed powerhouse sound and style. Background vocals are in the capable pipes of Ray Viera, Frankie Vásquez and Ricky González. Guests on the track Las Mujeres Son feature pianist Sonny Bravo and tresero Nelson González. Favorite tracks include Noche Como Boca E Lobo and Gandinga. Ricky González and Frankie Vásquez seem to have the most fun on this production; Ricky, through his musical wizardry, and Frankie, by always having the last word. (RM)
