Topic: RSS FeedEnrique Iglesias: back home on latin radio - ArtÃculo Breve
Latin Beat Magazine, Sept, 2002 by Rudy Mangual
The son of the global superstar Julio Iglesias, Enrique came into the eyes of the entertainment world in 1995 with the release of his self-titled debut CD of Latin-influenced pop music for the Fonovisa Records label. The following year he released the CD Vivir, which earned him a Grammy award and instantly launched his career into superstar status among the Spanish-speaking music community. In the short span of his musical career, the young Iglesias has become a worldwide sensation, having sold a jarring 30 million albums worldwide; over 17 million albums in Spanish. His recordings have landed him 13 #1 chart singles in Spanish, a Grammy, three American Music Awards and eight Premios Nuestro awards.
In 1998 he released the CD Cosas Del Amor and began to incorporate English lyric compositions into his recordings.
His 1999 production Enrique produced the hit Bailamos, topping the Billboard charts and breaking into the UK Top 5 charts as well. Soon thereafter he became the recipient of the prestigious ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award and also received the Album of the Year award from Billboard Magazine, which also named him Artist of the Year. While his father is known mainly for his interpretations of romantic ballads, the younger Iglesias' repertoire reflects his personal experiences growing up in Miami, having been influenced as much by the rock sounds of Journey, Foreigner and Roxy Music as by his Latin music roots. The new millennium brought the release of his English lyric hit composition Be With You, which also topped the U.S. single charts and set the path for the success of his English debut CD on the Interscope Records label titled Escape. The latter provided Enrique with the top hit single Hero in the U.S. as well as in the UK, still receiving much airplay.
After conquering the English-speaking pop airwaves for the past few years and touring extensively around the world--even to places infrequently visited such as Romania--international superstar Enrique Iglesias has returned to Latin radio with the release of his opening single titled Mentiroso, from his latest all-Spanish CD to be released on September 17 on the Universal Music Latino Records label. Mentiroso is an Enrique Iglesias and Chein GarcÃa composition recorded in the midst of the successful promotion of Escape, which continues to be a top seller around the world. Enrique's first all-Spanish album in the last five years makes it his most anticipated production work in this artist's short career. At the time of this publication, a video was being filmed for Mentiroso at ah undisclosed location in Miami, Florida. Airplay of Mentiroso hit the airwaves on July 22, 2002, giving his fans a small taste of what to expect very soon from this superb artist.
