Maikel Blanco Y Suprema Ley Ya Llegaron Los Cubanos

Latin Beat Magazine, Oct, 2003 by Gilbert Rivera

(Envidia)

Following in the footsteps of his mentors (Los Van Van, NG La Banda and Charanga Habanera), composer/multi-instrumentalist Maikel Blanco delivers a unique form of Cuban salsa and timba on this production. Leading his band, Suprema Ley (Supreme Law), like a circus ringmaster, Blanco aims to create more than just music for his audiences. Mostly from his keyboard bench, he commands musical passages and colorful illusions, adding a somewhat theatrical and festive ambience to his performances. This new disc pays tribute to all of the danceable rhythms of Cuban music, but with a primary focus on the forms and tendencies particularly expressed on the island nowadays. A total of a dozen original compositions exhibit the talent and trademark sound of Blanco and Supreme Ley. No Juegues Con Candela, Rumberos, and the title track Ya Llegaron Los Cubanos, all swing non-stop to the percussive backbone of the timba beat. Heading the vocals for the band are Pedro A. Matos, Tirso Duarte, Lázaro Lino and Yadimir Pérez.

In its purest form, office politics is simply about getting from here to there: securing a promotion, seeing an idea come to fruition, or gaining support to make an organizational change. Playing the game well is about defending your position, earning respect, exchanging favors, and keeping your sanity amid the chaos. To get started, you need to know what you really want from work, then orient your political moves toward those goals. It all starts with strong relationships and helping others; those people in return make up the support system that helps you realize your goals. Here’s how it’s done.
