LÁZARO MORÉ Sonero Cubano (Envidia)
Lázaro Moré became a household name altar being named the 1998 recipient of "Buscando un sonero" (In Search of a Sonero), a national talent contest spensored by Cuban television with the purpose of discovering new vocalists throughout the provinces of the island. Moré's ability to improvise on the spot (a major requirement of a good sonero) earned him first prize on said annual television event. Soon thereafter, he was invited to join the ranks of the popular group Son Candela, and altar a short stay with them, he left to join the prestigious outfit of Havana Casino, where he honed his vocal skills throughout the ensuing years. A true "old school" sonero and salsera (who idolizes the musical style of Oscar D'León and others), Moré draws the listener into a repertoire of classic salsa compositions, newly arranged in the traditional styles of Cuban music. Favorites include the classics Trucutú (a Chamaco Ramirez camposition), Ismael Miranda's Señor Sereno and a very unique version of the pop group Basilio's mega hit El Primer Millón. (RM)
