Taller Puertorriqueno - - Artículo Breve

Latin Beat Magazine, Nov, 2001

Taller Puertorriqueño, established in 1974, is a community-based organization dedicated to the preservation, development and promotion of Puerto Rican and Latin Amrican artistic and cultural traditions.

They serve as a unique cultural resource in the Philadelphia region, facilitating communication between local, state, and national communities and among diverse racial, ethnic and cultural groups in Philadelphia.

Taller Puertorriqueño, Inc. received a $25,000 grant from the Prudential Foundation to further support the organization's youth after-school and summer programs in the northwest area of Philadelphia.

Situated in the largest and surrounded by the poorest Puerto Rican/Latino neighborhood of Philadelphia, Taller offers the community much needed educational, cultural, and artistic programs and activities. Through Taller, children and adults have access to educational activities that are otherwise not available. Each year, more than 300 children and youth participate in Taller's after-school programs.

The Prudential Foundation grant will provide continued funding for the Cultural Awareness Program, the Youth Artist Program and the Advanced Cultural Exploration Program that provide safe, after-school activities for youth from lower eastern North Philadelphia.
