Javier Navarrette has dedicated himself to the study and performance of music for over 25 years. Specializing in Afro Caribbean rhythms, Javier has studied with masters such as Miguel "Angá" Díaz and José Luis "Changuito" Quintana in Cuba, as well as with San Francisco Bay Area instructors John Santos, Michael Spiro and Jesús Díaz.
He has had the opportunity to play with such greats as Los Van Van, The Conga Kings, Francisco Aguabella, Patato Valdés and Milton Cardona. Navarrette is a percussionist with Jesús Díaz y su QBA, Anthony Blea y su Charanga, and Los Mocosos. He has also recorded on two Grammy-nominated alburas with John Santos and his Machete Ensemble.
