MARC ANTHONY

One of the leading forces in the tropical dance arena, Marc Anthony returns with his third album (CD) titled Contra la corriente. Of Puerto Rican descent, Anthony is the product of urban New York City, the cradle of the music which in the 1970s was tagged Salsa. Contra la corriente includes nine compositions, five of which are from the pen of Omar Alfanno. The musical direction comes from Angel "Cucco" Peña, who is responsible for most of the arrangements. Anthony's vocals are commendable throughout the entire album, excelling on the tracks Contra la corriente, (an excellent example of the growth of this young artist), No me conoces, (reminiscent of the Golden Era of Latin music), No sabes como duele, (radio-friendly and a great dance tune), and Suceden, (a sweet bolero, composition of Fernando Arias). Recorded in Puerto Rico, Anthony called on Tito Allen, William Amparo, Wichie Camacho, Gilda González, and Yanira Torres for background vocals as well as some of the top studio players on the island. Contra la corriente is a noteworthy production from the young Marc Anthony who continues to prove why he is worthy of the top of the hill.
