Rental power bridges the Gulf - rental - Gulf of Mexico - Welch Generator Co
Diesel Progress North American Edition, Jan, 2004 by Larry Pearson
"During a fire or natural disaster such as a hurricane or flood, these centers have many millions of dollars of food that needs refrigeration and if power is interrupted for more than a few hours, rental generators are a lot cheaper than letting food spoil," Welch said.
Office buildings and other commercial structures present their own special set of problems. Often it is not power interruptions that are the problem, but failure of air conditioning compressor units. "In this case we offer flatbed trailers that hold a generator and an air conditioning system that takes over for the building's system on a temporary, basis while the permanent system is being repaired," Welch added.
To be in the rental generator business also is to be in related equipment businesses. "For example, few if any of our customers have the wire necessary to connect our generator to the load," Welch said. The company stocks any gauge of wire needed to make this connection. The same goes for transformers from 10 KVA to 1500 KVA, transfer switches from 200 to 1200 amp, distribution racks and receptacle rocks custom built for the customer's project and pole lighting that consists of a pair of 400 W mercury vapor lights rated for hazardous locations.
