Microwave engine timing system - Test Equipment 2002 - Jodon Inc - Brief Article
Diesel Progress North American Edition, Feb, 2002
Jodon has developed a PC version of the Jodon microwave engine timing (MET) system designed to offer expanded features from the original METS unit. The PC system employs contemporary microprocessor technology in a lightweight tabletop unit.
The Jodon microwave process involves introducing a low power microwave signal into a reciprocating engine cylinder for use in timing or phasing of engine operating parameters related to fuel economy, running smoothness, performance and exhaust emissions. The system is suitable for use with spark ignition or diesel engines, in all modes of operation. The system can also be used to time or phase events on nontraditional engines such as rotary and Stirling engines.
The Jodon process has the ability to accurately time engine events with respect to the traditional piston TDC reference. A precise measurement of piston motion is made in real time, with the engine running at virtually any speed.
The PC permits the operator to view on the monitor the microwave wave form and the timing of all phased events such as ignition, fuel line pressure pulses and engine control event pulses. The PC version of the system comes in a suitcase format and includes a laptop PC, all sensors, and all interconnecting cables. The unit weighs about 40 lb.
