Dyno control and automation - Test Equipment 2003

Diesel Progress North American Edition, Feb, 2003

After three years of development, Mustang Dynamometer introduced TESTCell, a dynamometer control and data acquisition for a.c., d.c., eddy current, water brake and hydraulic dynamometers. TESTCell is a real-time- based control solution with software powered by LabView, a National Instruments programming language. TESTCell has virtually no channel count limitations and can perform the control function of every aspect of the test cell -- from fuel delivery to in-cell air temperature. This flexibility allows test engineers to extensively define and program their own user-specific test parameters including profiles, loops, conditions, screens, variables, and alarms, the company said.

Mustang Dynamometer has also installed a new diesel engine hot test stand for a heavy-duty industrial machinery manufacturer. At the heart of this new system is a 700-plus hp, water-cooled, eddy current dynamometer and Mustang's advanced real-time control and automation software, TESTCell. In addition to supplying the dyno and controller, Mustang outfitted the new test cell with a fuel conditioning and measurement system, engine coolant conditioning system, charge-air inter-cooler conditioning system, heat rejection system, throttle actuator and amplifier and engine CAN Bus interface.
