Taylor continues product enhancements, integration - Test Equipment

Early 2002 was a busy time for Taylor Dynamo meter, as the New Berlin, Wis., company introduced its DynPro dynamometer control and data acquisition system and completed the acquisition of the diesel dynamometer product line from SuperFlow. Since that time, Taylor has continued the development of DynPro by offering additional product enhancements. The company is also continuing to integrate its acquired chassis and engine dynamometer products into its existing product range.
"Our acquisition of the SuperFlow product in late January 2002 was very important to the company because it makes Taylor a market leader in the chassis dynamometer business and presents us with tremendous aftermarket opportunities given the installed base of equipment in North America," said Art Downey, president of the company "We've also seen very good acceptance of our DynPro instrumentation package and continue to add enhancements to that system."
DynPro allows operators control of the dynamometer functions and provides comprehensive data acquisition of test results. DynPro controls and acquires data from the many accessories that complement the system including a smoke opacity meter, emissions gas analyzer, engine instrumentation unit, heavy-duty electronic engine interface and fuel measurement unit.
Recent enhancements to DynPro include increased program security, an on-screen numbers pad, customizable control modes and fault actions, on-screen operator enterable parameter values and increased calculated channel capabilities and functions. The company has also integrated a five-gas emissions analyzer into the DynPro system.
"For engine dynamometer applications, DynPro's selectable engine and closed loop throttle control modes include engine speed, engine torque and engine horsepower, all available in either a manual or automatic mode," said Jeff Brown, applications engineer for the DynPro system. "For chassis dynamometer applications, the selectable control modes include engine speed, vehicle speed, vehicle horsepower and vehicle torque, all available in either a manual or automatic mode."
Taylor's line of chassis dynamometers accommodate horsepower ranges from 50 to 1100 hp at 40 mph, single or tandem-axle vehicles and axle spreads from 48 to 74 in. The company offers six different chassis dyno models, all of which are available with the DynPro instrumentation package and other accessories including water recirculation and exhaust systems.
In addition to its water circulation and exhaust accessories, Taylor is also now offering a low temperature after-cooler product for engines with after-coolers and a charge-air cooler for engines without after-coolers.
Along with the integration of the SuperFlow chassis dynamometers into Taylor's existing line, the company is also now offering the SF-3100 heavy-duty portable engine dynamometer system designed for diesel and spark-ignition engine rebuilders. The SF3100 allows operators to test engines continuously up to 3000 lb.ft. of torque at 1500 rpm and up to 1000 hp from 1750 to 4000 rpm.
"We're pleased to be able to offer this portable engine dyno as an addition to our engine dynamometer product line' said Downey. "This device allows operators to easily perform initial break-in runs, full power runs and governor checks. Coupled with our DynPro software, the SF-3100 is capable of producing color graphs, charts and tabular test data reports and is easily integrated with the Taylor fuel consumption system for accurate measurement of fuel mass, volume and specific fuel consumption."
