Road load data gathering system - Test Equipment - Brief Article
Diesel Progress North American Edition, Feb, 2004
RS Technologies and CAESAR DataSystems have teamed up to develop the CR-1 multichannel telemetry system for gathering of road load data.
For the CR-1, RS Technologies provides sensitive wheel sensors that are designed to gather information on the forces and moments experienced by a wheel. By simultaneously sensing the three forces (longitudinal, lateral and vertical) and three moments (turnover, torque and turning), the CK-1 can provide on-wheel signal conditioning and a rich data stream to a laptop computer or PDA. Connection is via a standard P8232 serial port.

Before the sensors' information gets to the computer, however, it passes through a CAESAR. modular operating system (MOPS). The MOPS takes the data from the sensors and provides it in usable form to the computer at a transfer rate of 128k samples per second.
Installation is simple and mechanical alignment, signal zeroing and gain adjustment are performed automatically in the first few wheel revolutions while driving the vehicle, the company said.
