Cat adds turbo 3024 to compact line - Diesel Engines

Diesel Progress North American Edition, May, 2003

Caterpillar Inc. has announced a turbocharged addition that expands the top end of its compact 3000 family of diesel engines. The new four-cylinder model 3024CT has an output of 60 hp at 2800 rpm, meaning Cat's compact engine range now has outputs ranging from 20 to 60 hp. Naturally aspirated, in-line, four-cylinder 3024C diesels have outputs from 41.6 bhp at 2200 rpm to 51 bhp at 3000 rpm with the new water-cooled, turbo diesel version rated 60 bhp at 2800 rpm.

Developed primarily for use by small construction equipment and light-duty agricultural tractor manufacturers, the engine joins the Cat 3011C, 3013C, 3014C, 3024C/3024CT, 3044C/3044CT, 3054C/3054E, and 3056E in the 3000 series. Other targeted markets include industrial, agricultural, turf, materials handling and power generation market uses.

One of the first applications of the 3024CT is on Princeton Delivery Systems, Piggy Back PB-Series of truckmounted forklifts. The Canal Winchester, Ohio, manufacturer is using the 3024CT to power the model PB50 and the PB-65 forklifts, with the Princeton model D-45, slated to offer Cat power in the future.

Cat said the use of the 3024CT will provide up to 10 percent more horsepower than the previous model, combined with continuous operating angles increased to 350, making machines more productive and versatile. The diesels meet Tier 2 (Stage II) emissions standards and typically are about 3 dB(A) quieter in this use. Further, service intervals have been increased to 500 hours and improvements in oil consumption typically down to 0.2 percent of fuel used, further contributes to lower operating costs.

Butch Hunter, sales manager for Princeton Delivery Systems said the Piggy Back models PB-SO and PB-65 can be fitted to the rear of most trucks or trailers and are used primarily in the delivery of bricks, blocks, turf, roofing materials, lumber and other building materials to construction job sites and distribution centers. He added the engine is matched to a new, more powerful and reliable anti--stall hydraulic drive system that improves the PB-series performance. *
