New Engines

Tecumseh has introduced six L-head, vertical shaft engines with LEAP (low emission, advanced performance) technology. This family of engines consists of the 4.5 and 5 hp Centura models and the 5.5, 6, 6.5 and 6.75 hp Formula models, which meet the EPA's 2006 small engine emissions requirements, the company said. A number of these engines are also in the retail power equipment marketplace under private label brands.

The company also added an 18 hp single-cylinder engine to its line-up of Enduro overhead valve engines. A four-cycle, air-cooled engine with a cast-iron sleeve, it is intended as a high feature, high value engine for lawn tractors and riding mowers. It is certified to EPA Phase II, California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 standards and meets emission requirements in all 50 states, Tecumseh said.

Engine Technology

Tecumseh introduced its LEAP technology, an innovative package of features for small engines. LEAP technology enables Tecumseh to meet the EPA's 2006 emission requirements without the added cost of overhead valve technology. Engines with LEAP technology feature automotive piston technology for reduced oil consumption, a cleaner burning engine and quieter operation; inverted cylinder port design, for a cooler-running longer lasting engine and Tecumseh's patented carburetion system to prevent cold-start stalls.

Corporate News

Tecumseh purchased Motoco Engines and Fuel Systems, an engine and carburetor manufacturer headquartered in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic. Motoco produces two-stroke engines, single- and twin-cylinder four-stroke engines and carburetors.

New Engines

Two Stroke International's newest engine is the model 215 MF. This engine is a diesel/dual fuel engine with a bore and stroke of 67.5 x 60.0 mm for a displacement of 215 cc. The single-cylinder engine has an output range of 5 to 12 hp and a peak torque of 12.0 lb.ft. at 5000 rpm. Also new is the model 690L-70 air-cooled, twin-cylinder engine which is designed for marine applications. This unit is fueled by gasoline and develops 70 hp.

Corporate News

Two Stroke International is solely owned and operated by AMW Cuyuna Engine Co., Inc. and is the result of the AMW and Cuyuna merger in 1994 -- AMW Engines Inc. was located in Spartanburg, S.C. while Cuyuna Engine Company evolved from the Scorpion Snowmobile Company of Crosby, Minn.

2si targets the lightweight high-performance engine market niche for spark-ignited diesel-fuel engines. The company also produces engines, gearboxes, belt drives, and jet pumps for light aircraft, boats, hovercraft, powered parachutes, military drones, transportable military equipment, portable generators and fire pumps, industrial equipment, and other applications.

The company's facility includes a dynamometer and multiple test stands. Last year, two new computer-numerically-controlled (CNC) machining centers were installed to increase production capacity. All designing and machining utilizes CAD/CAM software.

2si's past projects include a watercraft jet pump which it now offers as an integrated engine/pump package for installations in small jet boats. Recently a lightweight, spark-ignited diesel engine was designed for the United States Marine Corps and passed extensive Department of Defense (DOD) testing criteria. This engine uses Piaggio's patented "FAST" Direct Injection Process technology. Piaggio is the manufacturer if Vespa scooters. The engine is currently used in the M17 Sanator battlefield decontamination units -- more than 1600 engines have been furnished to the military for these units.
