Evaporator options for reducing wastewater and dry solids disposal costs - Hydro-Blast Inc.'s products - Brief Article

Diesel Progress North American Edition, July, 1999

Hydro-Blast, Inc., Vancouver, Wash., has a well-known product line of aqueous parts washers for heavy-duty engine repair and maintenance requirements. While all of the washers have built-in wastewater evaporators, the company also provides separate evaporator systems designed to reduce and simplify the wastewater and dry solids disposal costs that accompany pans washing processes.

The Hydro-Vap 1000 is a small electrically heated evaporator intended to provide an economical means to reduce wastewater. Underfloor heating allows up to 95 percent of the wastewater to be evaporated, according to Hydro-Blast. The model 1000 evaporator features a flat floor, 2 in. drain and large top door for easy clean-outs. All wetted parts are 304 stainless steel and the exterior is powder coated. An oil skimmer and auto fill options are available. Several larger size evaporators of this basic design are also available.

The Hydro-Vap Combo option has combined underfloor heat and an Immersion tube to increase evaporation rates up to 20 percent. By combining both heat designs, a highly concentrated sludge is possible, the company said. In this unit the immersion tube is well above the floor for easy clean-out. To utilize the increased heat transfer surface effectively, auto fill is recommended. This option is available on all gas-fired evaporators, models 1500 and up.

The DS-155 series dry solids evaporator is designed to compliment high rate evaporators as the final step in complete evaporation. Hydro-Vap evaporators can provide up to 95 percent wastewater reduction, Hydro-Blast stated. The DS-155 unit is designed to remove the remaining moisture, reducing the Sludge to a dry solid.

A track-mounted trolley allows the disposal drum to be easily rolled in and out of the evaporator. When the drum is full of dried concentrated solids, it can be sealed and shipped to an appropriate disposal site.

Standard features for the DS-155 evaporator include a 304 stainless steel inner liner, digital temperature control, vent fan, and 1 in. insulation.
