Diesel Progress North American Edition, July, 2008

Johnson Controls and Saft, a French battery manufacturer, are joining to supply Ford Motor Co. with advanced batteries to test in a fleet of Escape plug-in hybrids. The lithium-ion batteries will power 20 demonstration vehicles. The plug-in hybrids will be powered entirely by an electric motor and have a battery that can be charged directly off the grid.

The tests will address barriers to commercialization such as cost and technology validation, said the companies.
