JLG Industries Inc. announced a "repositioning of its operations" to what it said would "more appropriately align its costs within its business activity and further enhance the company's competitive advantage." The rationalization plan includes the permanent closure of one of two JLG facilities in Bedford, Pa., during the first quarter of fiscal 2002.
Operations at this 75,000 sq.ft. facility will be relocated to other JLG plants. The plant closing will result in a reduction of approximately 265 people over the course of the next two months. In addition, aligning the workforce with current economic conditions at other facilities worldwide will result in a further reduction of approximately 370 people during the fiscal fourth quarter for a total of 635 people.
