The British Industrial Truck Association Ltd. (BITA) announced that during the first quarter of 2003 BITA members reported unit orders of 7870 forklift trucks for the U.K. market. This is a single quarter record and it is 16 percent higher than the first quarter of 2002. In the year ended March 2003, almost 28,600 new forklift trucks were ordered from the U.K.'s principal suppliers representing a market growth of 4 percent in just one quarter.

The most significant growth areas were: reach trucks (19 percent), powered pallet trucks (19 percent) and LPG counter-balance trucks (13 percent).
