High capacity torque converter
Diesel Progress North American Edition, August, 2005
Gale Banks Engineering has developed an aftermarket torque converter for heavy-duty pickup trucks. The Banks Billet Torque Converter (BBTC) is designed for 1994 to 2003 7.3 L Power Stroke engines with E4OD/4RIO0 transmissions and for 1998 to 2005 5.9 L Cummins diesels with 47RE/48RE transmissions. With its dual-disc lockup clutch assembly and improved forged-steel billet cover surface, the heavy-duty BBTC offers improved torque capacity. In addition, according to Banks, since the lockup clutch is slip-resistant, transmission fluid temperatures stay cooler, transmission life is prolonged and fuel economy improves as well. From its single-piece billet cover CNC-machined from forged steel to the furnace-brazed turbine and impeller, and from the furnace-brazed and hardened turbine hub to the hardened pump drive made of 4130 chromemoly steel to withstand massive torque, the BBTC is built to properly match the torque band of the Power Stroke and Cummins-powered pickups, delivering maximum power to the wheels and improving acceleration, the company said.
