Stone Construction Equipment has expanded its Mud Buggy equipment range with the new SB2100. With 21 cu.ft. and a 3200 lb. load capacity, it accompanies Stone's existing SB1600 with 16 cu.ft. The mud buggies are designed to haul concrete, mortar, gravel, dirt and debris.

The SB2100 can serve as either a walk-behind or ride-on machine by adjusting the lockable, fold-up operator platform. The platform features a platform-mounted service brake for added safety and a lower center of gravity for stability and traction, said Stone.

Under the one-piece, lift-away polyethylene engine cover resides a Honda single-cylinder GX390 gasoline engine. The 390 cc engine is rated 13 hp and is air-cooled with an integral fan. It is available with either a recoil or electric start.

The engine powers a hydrostatic drive consisting of a closed-loop system with a drive pump from Hydro-Gear and two White Drive Products wheel motors at the drive wheels, which form a parallel hydraulic circuit. The unit steers via the two rear wheels connected to a pivoting single axle in a configuration similar to an industrial fork truck, said Stone. Handlebar-mounted levers control speed and direction.

The hydraulic system also includes an open-loop system with an auxiliary pump, also from Hydro-Gear, to provide flow to the dump cylinder, which is controlled by a hydraulic directional control valve from Sauer-Danfoss. Dumping is controlled through a dumping lever and integrated foot pedal--a combination engineered for precise and controlled dumping, said Stone.

Stone replaces Honda's standard fuel tank with an 8 gal. tank to extend the machine's run time. A 7 gal. removable hydraulic reservoir is designed for cooler running, said the company.

According to Stone, both Mud Buggy models meet or exceed safety standards for lateral stability, longitudinal stability, and parking and service brake effectiveness. They are manufactured at Stone's Honeoye, N.Y., facility.
