Komatsu Ltd - partnership with Daimler-Benz to develop a dump truck - Brief Article

Diesel Progress North American Edition, July, 1998 by Chuck Kondor

Komatsu Ltd., and Daimler-Benz AG have recently developed a dump truck that combines a Mercedes truck body with a Komatsu hydraulic bed. Komatsu has adapted hydraulic bed technology from its large, off-road dump trucks to smaller trucks with Mercedes bodies that can handle highway travel. The companies will focus on the development and manufacture of dump trucks, along with container and moving trucks.

Daimler-Benz will supply the truck bodies through a Mercedes-Komatsu joint venture in Japan. Komatsu will establish a new division to handle the development, production and sales of the new trucks at its Osaka plant. Komatsu planned to begin marketing 10- and 12-ten models of the new truck in June.
