Unisys Demos Intel Xeon Mp And Mckinley Technology Running On Unisys 32-Way And 16-Way Servers - Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000

Unisys recently demonstrated the power and scalability of the soon-to-be-released 32-bit Intel Xeon processor MP and the 64-bit McKinley processor on 32-way and 16-way Unisys ES7000 enterprise servers, respectively.

A Unisys e-@ction Enterprise Server ES7000 with 32 Intel Xeon processors MP was featured during a demonstration recently at IDF. Slated for official release later in the first half of this year as part of the Unisys ES7000 family of servers, the system featuring Intel Xeon processors MP is expected to be the only 32-way IA-32 server in the industry.

The server also will feature the latest server technology innovations provided in upcoming Intel Xeon processors including the Intel NetBurst micro-architecture and Hyper-Threading technology to support large server workloads, resulting in improved scalability, increased transaction rates, faster response times and support for greater numbers of users.

At the Intel Developers Forum, Unisys also demonstrated a 16-processor McKinley-based server. The server simulated an airline reservations transaction processing environment and demonstrated the linear scalability of Unisys CMP architecture. It featured a graphical display of airline routes with lines moving between destinations around the globe.

"This latest demonstration from Unisys at the Intel Developers Forum further supports our continued strategy to introduce powerful and scalable processors, such as our forthcoming Intel Xeon processor MP, for large, complex, mission-critical solutions," said Mike Fister, senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Enterprise Platforms Group. "The ES7000 demonstrated by Unisys is further proof that Intel continues to work with OEMs to enhance scalability, reliability and performance for the most demanding enterprise environments, while dramatically reducing the cost."

The Unisys demonstrations both run a future version of the Windows .NET Datacenter Server operating system. Built on Windows 2000, the Windows .NET Server family includes all the basic functionalities customers expect from a Windows Server operating system, such as dependability, security, and scalability.

In addition, Microsoft has improved and extended the Windows Server product family to enable businesses to experience full-blown .NET functionality. Windows .NET Server provides the infrastructure for building, deploying and managing applications that allow for rapid change, eliminating boundaries between businesses and their partners and customers.

In addition to Microsoft .NET, the Unisys ES7000 runs Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Windows 2000 Datacenter Server, as well as Unixware.
