Intel's Triumph in PC Chips - Brief Article - Product Announcement
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, April 3, 2000
Intel Corp. has just released its latest Celeron processor for personal computers priced under $1,000, which comes in 600- and 566-megahertz versions. This represents a significant coup against Advanced Micro Devices in the hotly competitive and relentless race for the creation of faster chips. The Intel release will put increased pressure on AMD and at least for the moment maintains Intel's position as the overwhelming market leader with in excess of 85% of the total PC market.
AMD will meet the Intel challenge later this year with its "Spitfire" chip, but has released little information about the speed or architecture of the processor.
