U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command chooses Quest Software
EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, April 12, 2004
Quest Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:QSFT), a provider of application management solutions, announced recently that the U.S. Army Product Manager Business Enterprise Systems (PM BES), in coordination with the Army's Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM) and the Army's CIO/G-6 office, has selected Quest's Microsoft Management Solutions products for migrating and managing the command's Microsoft network infrastructure. NETCOM purchased 375,000 licenses of Quest Reporter, Quest ActiveRoles and Quest Migrator and associated consulting and mentoring services.
NETCOM will implement Quest Reporter and Quest ActiveRoles for operations management of more than 10 Army Active Directory forests. Quest Reporter is being used to assess the current Microsoft Windows NT domains prior to migration to Active Directory and for ongoing operations management reporting of Active Directory. Quest ActiveRoles is being used for security lockdown of Active Directory through role-based delegation, Group Policy management and business rules. In addition, Quest Migrator will be used for the Army's migration from Windows NT to Active Directory and Exchange 2003.
"Quest Software has worked closely with NETCOM and the PM BES office and its predecessors since August 2000 to deliver scalable solutions that will simplify our Active Directory and Exchange Microsoft infrastructure in a secure manner and reduce related software, hardware and management costs," said Daniel Gilbert of FC Business Systems, a senior Active Directory specialist for the U.S. Army NETCOM. "Additionally, the engagement with Quest will help minimize network migration-related disruption to end users and safeguard our Microsoft infrastructure."
Quest Reporter, Quest Migrator and Quest ActiveRoles are currently in use in the Continental United States (CONUS), Europe, Korea and National Guard. Quest Software has more than 700,000 government end users including the Department of State, Department of Agriculture and the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI).
"Particularly during war times, but certainly at all times, it is critical that the U.S. Army be able to simplify, automate and secure its Microsoft infrastructure," stated Paul Garver, vice president of Public Sector, Quest Software. "Quest Software is pleased to support PM BES, NETCOM and the Army CIO's office by providing solutions and services that help ensure compliance with operational standards, centralize network management, and provide a fast, transparent migration to Active Directory and Exchange."
NETCOM is a worldwide service-based organization providing one coherent vision for Army Information Management. NETCOM delivers seamless enterprise-level Command, Control, Communications, Computer and Information Technology common-user services to war-fighting forces in support of the Army, its service component commanders and combatant commanders.
