Sterling sound licenses DMOD WorkSpace software

EDP Weekly's IT Monitor, Oct 21, 2002

DMOD, Inc., the leading provider of secure digital media workflow and distribution solutions for the media and communications industry, announced that Sterling Sound, a renowned mastering studio in New York City, has licensed DMOD WorkSpace software for secure sharing and distribution of digital music tracks via the public Internet. DMOD WorkSpace will help Sterling expand in the global mastering marketplace and broaden its service offering through faster project turnaround and more cost-efficient and secure collaboration with clients. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Mastering nearly 30 percent of the Billboard 200 each year, including such prominent artists as Bob Dylan, Coldplay, The Dave Matthews Band, and Elvis, Sterling Sound is recognized for pioneering advances in the delivery of music on every format from LP to DVD. Foreseeing the potential to expedite production schedules, Sterling began working with DMOD earlier this summer. In one instance, Sterling used DMOD to begin mastering a Number 1 hit single just 15 minutes after the mix was completed in Miami. Sterling now is installing DMOD WorkSpace Gateway server software in its 25,000-square foot New York City facility.

"For several years we have been searching for a solution that's easier to use and more secure than FTP for our eMastering service," said Murat Aktar, president of Sterling Sound. "DMOD customized its software for eMastering enabling our clients to send and receive uncompressed digital audio files, protected by sophisticated encryption, using a simple, intuitive software interface. Powered by DMOD, eMastering provides instant access to our entire mastering team in New York from anywhere in the world."

The DMOD WorkSpace is the first software-only solution to simultaneously address inefficiencies in the digital production workflow and the pressing need to protect content during the B2B production process--where music tracks and film works are most vulnerable to unauthorized access.

A client-server solution that's as easy to use as e-mail, DMOD WorkSpace affords content owners greater asset control, when compared with FTP or VPN alternatives, by combining secure file transfer with media access permissions, including release and expiration dates or export to native formats. By leveraging the public Internet to reduce time delays and expenses associated with delivery services and travel, DMOD WorkSpace also helps to shorten production cycles and reduce project costs.

"We are extremely pleased to announce Sterling Sound as our newest customer," said Mark Overington, president and CEO of DMOD. "On the heels of other strategic wins, this confirms that the industry is on the verge of entering a whole new era of all-digital production with secure workflow as the standard. And DMOD is uniquely suited to become the leader in this transition."

DMOD, Inc. provides secure digital media workflow and distribution software solutions for the media and communications industry. DMOD's solutions prevent high-value content from being distributed in unauthorized ways, while simultaneously addressing inefficiencies in the digital production workflow. Weaving together industry-standard encryption technologies, DMOD has developed a patent-pending real-time encryption methodology that provides the highest level of control for digital media assets--including music, video, graphics, text, software applications, and more. DMOD leverages this technology in developing software applications and OEM solutions that allow content creators and owners to concentrate on the quality and value of digital assets, not the means for securing and protecting them.
